It’s finally feeling like winter here. So, I’m finally able to wear all my cozy sweaters I’ve been eagerly staring at for the past 2 months. I’m so in love with the cozy turtleneck, which is in fact second-hand. I’m a big advocate of buying vintage or second-hand clothing as much as possible. You can usually find me scouring thrift shops or vintage stores on the weekend, where I love perusing the racks for hidden gems.
Sometimes, it’s a bit like trying to find a needle in a haystack. But it’s all part of the fun if you ask me.
What are the benefits of shopping for second-hand clothing?
- You reduce the amount of clothing waste. The US alone sends about 21 billion pounds of textile waste to landfills each year.
- You’re giving these pieces a new lease on life. You can oftentimes upcycle second-hand clothes to suit your own wardrobe or style. Consider a handy DIY project or tailor them to fit your needs.
- You are helping stop the vicious cycle of fast fashion. The consumer drives the fashion industry, so the more we demand change then the more change we will see as a result.
- You’re saving yourself money. It’s amazing how much more affordable it is to shop second-hand. You can find amazing deals on the brands you love.
